With your own Stripe account connected, families can pay by card in the portal, or set up automatic payments from their bank account or card. The money goes straight to your Stripe account, then to your bank. Clovernest takes nothing.
Connect Stripe
Go to Billing → Billing settings → Card payments and click Connect Stripe. Stripe asks for your business and bank details and sets up a login for you (with two-step login). When asked about fraud protection, Standard is fine.
Back in Clovernest it says your account is connected.
Fees (charged by Stripe)
- Cards: about 2.9% + 30¢ a payment.
- Bank debit (pre-authorized debit): 1% + 40¢, at most $5 a payment.
Pay by card
Families tap Pay by card in the portal, or the link in invoice emails, and pay on Stripe's secure page. It's recorded against their balance automatically, with a receipt.
Automatic payments
With Families can set up automatic payments on, parents save a bank account or card in the portal. Each invoice is then paid on its due date, for the amount owing on it.
- Stripe handles the bank verification, the pre-authorized debit agreement and the notices families must get before each debit.
- Bank debits take up to 5 business days to clear. They show as on their way, and families aren't reminded in the meantime.
- If a payment fails, automatic payments pause, and the family and your admins are told.
- On a family's Billing tab you can see whether they're on automatic payments, and turn it off if they ask.
Refunds
Make refunds in your Stripe dashboard. Clovernest updates the family's balance by itself.
